With the release of FEAR the bar in terms of graphics was raised a very significant notch so AnandTech set down and tested FEAR with the fastest of the fastest graphics cards there are. They used the absolute latest drivers from ATI and NVIDIA, both of which offer increased performance in FEAR. Here's a snippet of the crushing result: "Not only is this the best looking game out right now, but it also happens to be the most graphically demanding, as we will see in our performance tests. It's so demanding in fact that it could be a good reason for people to upgrade their graphics card. FEAR only supports resolutions of up to 1600x1200, but only the highest end cards can handle this resolution well, especially with soft shadows and/or AA enabled. In fact, this may be the first game that puts the 7800 GTX to its full use, as our tests showed at 1600x1200 with soft shadows and AA enabled FEAR was barely playable." FEAR literally brings today's fastest graphics cards to their knees. At higher resolutions even Nvidias drafthorse, the GeForce 7800 GTX has trouble delivering playable framerates and also ATI's Radeon X1800 XT, which hasn't even been released yet, almost goes under. On a good note, if you're setting without AA and AF and a resolution not higher than 1024x768, it's very good playable, even with older graphics cards. Click here for Anandtech's full review!
